WELCOME BACK TO ANOTHER CHEMICALLY OFF BALANCED REVIEW AT COMIC UNKNOWN!

We return to the dystopian world plagued with an addictive but fatal drug known as Chem 19. In issue seven, we saw Dr. Wagner escape the cartel thanks to Donkey's help. Now both are hiding out in a dead addict's home trying to figure out how to get Dr. Wagner out of the city while smuggling out the lethal contraband. The cartel is now searching every nook and cranny for the duo so now Donkey and Dr. Wagner must wait until nightfall before anyone can even consider escaping out of the city. Things do begin to get heated up with Donkey as his addiction kicks in and forces Dr. Wagner to take certain actions. Time has passed by and Vivian still hasn't received a new dosage to keep her from dying. How much longer can she handle before the drug's deadly side effects kick in and finish her off? Dr. Wagner is facing a larger enemy than the cartel and its name is time. 

Chem 19 Issue Eight can leave the readers in a bit of a bind. As we eagerly want to see how the doctor can escape the city or accomplish any other feats that may cross in front of him, our main concern lies on Vivian and if she can survive until Dr. Wagner's return. In previous issues, we have seen people pass from not taking another dose within a few days and it seems that Vivian begins to creep up to that mark. Only time will tell on what the future may hold for the Wagner family and what new obstacles Dr. Wagner must face so he may return to his home. Welcome back to another chapter of Chem 19 with Comic Unknown! We return to the series at issue seven and see that Dr. Wagner is still tied up and held captive by the Cartel. Dr. Wagner needs to figure out what he can do to escape but there was an unlikely person to help him. With the help of Donkey and his addiction to the drug, Donkey managed to sneak into the building and he begins his search. Uncertain whether we wants to find the drug more or the doctor himself, Donkey finds the mother load! After a few hurdles Donkey had to overcome, he managed to stumble upon Dr. Wagner.  Now it is time for them to escape and they are facing obstacles to be home free. We have been following Dr. Wagner's unfortunate adventure for some time now and we have been hooked on what to expect. While the story has had seven issues to develop, we are still running through this dystopia to find the cure to save Dr. Wagner's daughter. Even though Vivian wasn't seen in this issue, it puts an interesting question into perspective: how much time does she have left?

Bang! Bang!

Jason has gone through hell and back to find any amount of dosage of the deadly drug for his daughter and now needs to find a way to escape the city. Having issue seven come to an end, we continue to ponder on how Dr. Wagner will return to his daughter and whether will he find a cure not just use the drug to prolong death. Kevin Truglio and Przemyslaw R Dedelis has formed the degraded world of Chem 19 and has allowed us to follow a father and his unstoppable will to do anything he can to save his daughter. Who is Dr. Wagner?

We dive back into Kevin Truglio's mind and venture into Chem 19 Issue Six: Trapped to see what happened to Dr. Wagner after the games. While being told to follow one of the cartel members for his "prize", Jason Wagner is double-crossed held captive by the cartel. Dr. Wagner is now trapped and being tortured for information. Concerned that Dr. Wagner is not who he says he is, the Cartel believes that someone has sent him, but who? With pressure and time running out, Dr. Wagner must figure out what he must do to escape, retrieve Chem 19, and head back to Vivian before her time expires or being seen by the persistent cops. Fortunately or maybe unfortunately, Donkey is persistent and will do anything to get inside  the building. Will Donkey successfully find the newly acquainted Dr or a secret stash of the infamous drug?

With time ticking and every possible setback interfering Dr. Wagner's plans, we wonder how Dr. Wagner will unravel all these issues and walk out with Chem 19. The intensity of the issue reminds readers why Dr. Wagner went back into the city.  Chem 19 Issue Six: Trapped leaves us in a cliffhanger wanting to grab Issue Seven even quicker just to see what happened. Chem 19 is a strong series that allows the reader to walk in a dystopian world and see the struggles one goes through to survive. Fight to the Finish

WELCOME TO ANOTHER DEATH MATCH AT COMIC UNKNOWN!

How far would you go to keep your child safe? Would you fight to the death for someone else's amusement? That is what Jason Wagner is willing to do to get Chem 19 for his daughter, Vivian before time expires. We welcome you back the hellbent world where a taking a deadly drug is the same drug that's needed to keep you alive. Chem 19 Issue #5: Death Match puts us in the heart of the games that is hosted by the cartel and the victor receives some C19. The coordinator of the games is not hesitant to remind the addicts who is in command and what can happen if they do not obey the rules. Matches are one on one, it doesn't matter if you are big or small, male or female nobody should let their guard down in these fights. No one can deny the willingness people will have in order to survive and the things they will do to accomplish their goals. We reach the final match, Dr. Wagner against Kyle Semans and he is an absolute brute that can complicate Dr. Wagner's goal. The final match is the death match of the Games so only one can leave the match alive. 

Chem 19 Issue #5: Death Match puts Dr. Wagner's physical attributes to the test. The story shows us the lawless society in barbaric times for mere enjoyment for the cartel. From biting onto one's genitalia to bashing someone's head in with a large rock, C19 #5 puts in perspective the savage violence "The Games" brings to the table. Issue five shows the wild state the government has allowed the C19 infested world to be in. CHEM 19 ISSUE FOUR: THE GAME

 

After a great interview with Kevin yesterday, we had to continue where we left off with Chem 19 with a new review. We start issue four with Dr. Jason Wagner entering the city for Chem 19 for his daughter. Luck happened to miss him from a mile away considering the city is on a lockdown and no street level thug or dealer is selling. He confronts his usual dealer completely unaware of the lockdown and the dealer catches on quickly that Dr, Wagner is not from around there. Being immediately threatened and having his cover blown, Dr. Wagner walks away from the gangsters and begins to be followed. It did not take him long to pin the guy against the wall and get information from him. 

We as the reader get to learn a lot in this issue. We learn about The Games which is a fighting tournament held by the cartel and the winner receives some Chem 19. We also get a glimpse on what caused the government to be how they are now. We are glad to see the story developing and answering a few questions on what has happened in the Chem 19 universe. The creative team of Chem 19 will have the reader flipping through the pages binging through the books to see what is will happen. With more to come from Truglio and Dedelis, only time will tell on what happens to Vivian and Dr. Wagner in this dystopian world. An Addict's Interview

Welcome back to another great adventure with Comic Unknown!!

Today we have a very special opportunity to interview a creator we have seen in the Comic Unknown world multiple times. He created the father that will stop at nothing to find a drug that could not only kill his daughter, but needs the drug to keep her alive. We welcome Kevin Truglio the creator of Chem 19 to this fortunate interview!

Comic Unknown: What made you want to work in the comicbook industry? 

Kevin Truglio: I always enjoyed comics as a kid and they were a fun part of growing up.  When the story of Chem 19 came to me, it can as these images that I felt would be perfect as a comic instead of other mediums, so because of that, it just felt natural to try and tell the story that way.

CU: How did you come up with the story line of Chem 19?

KT: The story of Chem 19 came as a way of dealing with an incident of life.  I had these emotions that I was going thru and the story of Chem 19 evolved from them. 

CU:Were any of the characters inspired by another character or person?

KT: No one in particular.  As a writer, we always use our past as an indirect influence on our works so there is some of that but nothing where I chose specifically for the story.   I do use my friends and family names for characters and even have contests on the Facebook or the Tapastic page where fans came have their name in the series.

CU: How many issues do you have in mind for the series? 

KT: We are on issue # 18 and that ends the first arc.  I’m not sure how long the 2nd arc will take but I do see the series continuing on after the first arc.  The story keeps growing as we work on it.

CU: Will the comic's universe continue after the series? 

KT: Maybe.  I’ve had some spinoff stories pop up in my head of how other people would live in this world.  Some of these could be one time stories as bonus material for a KickStarter or even make their way into the series later.  It’s all up in the air right now.

CU: What was the most difficult part in the production of Chem 19? 

KT: The toughest part is growing the fan base.  Marketing takes time.  I’ve done a successful Kickstarter, gone to conventions and built an online presence.  It’s constant work.  There are so many stories and products out there, it’s hard for a little guy to find his way.

 

CU: Are you planning on any new series after Chem 19? 

KT: I’m working on a horror novel and do have another idea for a comic series but want to continue with Chem 19 for now so nothing on the comic front.

 CU: Who is your favorite all time super hero/villain? Why? 

KT: Dare Devil.  I love what he stands for.  It really drew me in as a kid…Plus who doesn’t want be afraid of anything!  

CU: What is the best way readers can find Chem 19?

KT: The two best ways are our Facebook page or Tapastic page.  And always make sure to check Kickstarter for us too, we will be launching our 2nd one soon to put issues 7-12 in a TPB.  That is the main way that we get our sales which help us continue the story.

Chem 19 Issue 3: Kill 'Em All

With the restart of the blog we have managed to find new books to mention or review, but we have not gone over any of previously mentioned books until today. We welcome back to the line up Chem 19. Created/written by Kevin Truglio and illustrated/lettered by Przemyslaw R. Dedelis, we left off at issue two where we find out that Vivian has taken the drug and now requires to constantly take Chem 19 to live. Chem 19's issue three shows Dr. Jason Wagner in a predicament with the local law enforcement as they have received a tip that Dr. Wagner is definitely hiding someone or something in his home. 

Dr. Wagner is in a state of mind in which he is willing to do anything to anyone to protect his secret, even if it means to kill the officers. The book has its intense moments throughout these full black and white pages of content and does not stop making us feel anxious to find out what happens next. The storyline progresses in a  steady pace but keeps our eyes locked into the pages wondering how far deep of a whole Dr. Wagner is falling into. He must figure out his next 10 steps and make his plans bulletproof. We are not surprised with the quality in the writing and art nor do we expect anything less in the upcoming issues. Thirteenth Painted Courier

WELCOME BACK TO YET ANOTHER STORY OF THE COMIC UNKNOWN ANTHOLOGY

This week's anthology of reviews is from none other than Ugli Studios. 

Ugli Studios #2 starts off with a bang with a story from the fictitious Wild West named “The Painted Ladies of San Quentin”. The story stars Elijah Holman, a pastor turned gun-toting vigilante who’s on the run from assassins after his head for witnessing a land grab with a few more casualties than he should have seen. That’s the gist of it without spoiling much more if it, but I quite like it. It’s a story that’s a throwback to old pulp stories of yore and has an array of colorful characters that have a Tarantino-esque feel to them. The story is presented with gratuitous amounts of stylized violence and ends as fast as it starts.

The next story, “The Courier” slaps you in the face by dropping us in the middle of a chase scene between a man with an ancient relic and alien insects. The story, while short, has a satisfying end that leaves you wondering asking questions like, how did this chase start? Who’s this man? And what of the ominous ending? “The Courier” has potential for growth considering the cliffhanger that was left for us to ponder on.

The final story titled “Thirteen” that starts the story of a g-man looking figure who’s made clones and is presenting his latest “brother” named “Thirteen” and things go south fast. Without spoiling anything, I can say the art is fantastic, it has the visual styling that oozes Sin City. Unfortunately the story is even briefer than the other two. “Thirteen” looks fantastic, stylized art that just pops out and grabs your attention. The story however seems to just end so abruptly it leaves you thirsting for more but it seems the story ties itself up and leaves you out to dry.

Ugli Studios #2 seems like a great smorgasbord of potentially greater stories if they were to be fleshed out as standalones because it’s such a shame that they ended so fast. Addicted

WELCOME BACK TO ANOTHER ADDICTING DOSE OF COMIC UNKNOWN!

 We recently dived into a world where civilization is segregated with those who are addicted beyond control to Chem 19 and those who are not. Where once someone has taken it, they must continue to use it or they will die. We follow Dr. Jason Wagner, the creator of this apocalyptic drug in his mission on creating a cure for the very thing he created. In issue two, we soon find out that his own daughter Vivian has taken the drug and now needs to constantly be taking enough to survive. But with every drug comes an addiction, and Vivian is no different. With Dr. Wagner hiding her in his home, he arrives home with the required dosage he needs after managing to pass through the check point with from issue one. 

 With many things going on through a readers mind, one thing kept coming up while reading issue two. What happens if he gets caught smuggling Chem 19 out of the city. Addicted is the second issue of what i hope to be of a long ride into a not so distant dystopian society. While issue two shows more about the effects of the drug addiction than anything else, it is still a great issue that is setting the foundation of what can be a great run. Truglio's writing and Dedelis' artwork complement each other and puts what every parents worst nightmare into a solid comic book. A Fractured Society

 WELCOME TO ANOTHER EPIC CHAPTER  OF COMIC UNKNOWN!

 Lets imagine a future where civilization is segregated with those who are addicted beyond control and those who are not. Now lets imagine that there is a drug that exists where once someone has taken it, they must continue to use it or else they parish. That drug is called CHEM 19, and the man that is looking for a cure was the same person who created it! Created and written by Kevin Truglio and illustrated and lettered by Przemyslaw R. Dedelis, Chem 19 follows Dr. Jason Wagner. Dr. Wagner had created Chem 19 for use in war and was designed to foster addiction and dependence.The chemical compound attached itself to DNA of the user and if the user stopped taking the drug, then the chemical would disintegrate along with the DNA causing death.

   The purpose of Chemical 19 was to bring the elimination or dependence of warring countries. With no cure provided, the drug found its way to every country. With little to no government support, all addicts are segregated into the cities and with no way out.In his travels, we see Wagner in the process of leaving the city. He is confronted with common criminals attempting to rob him of a vial of Chem 19 he is carrying. Fighting ensues and the thugs soon realized that they picked a fight with the wrong person. He reaches the checkpoint to leave the city and gets on the departure bus but the bus was quickly stopped by the checkpoint officers when they realize someone on the bus is attempting to sneak out of the city.

    With out any more spoilers, Chem 19 is an awesome read with a story that is basically in a post apocalyptic world and yet still controlled under one entity. It has it a great cover and illustrations and is an indie comic where you can't just stop on the first issue. The issue begins building the dystopian world and with one man searching for a cure. Chem 19 is black and white with about 30 pages of story and a few goodies at the end. It is currently available for an awesome price of .....$0.00! So just follow this link and start reading!.
