Tin Man and his Rat

WELCOME TO ANOTHER SUPERNATURAL INVESTIGATION AT COMIC UNKNOWN

In the Victorian era of England, people were prone to the paranormal and supernatural. Tales are told by the locals of people disappearing without a trace. Could this be fiction to scare off the tourist? Whatever the case may be, this made clairvoyants more popular than ever and for some people, all they see is a quick payday. What would you do if you found a genuine psychic? Would you believe their stories or the fortune they hold for you? Cognition Issue Zero tells a series of stories following an unlikely duo, a human soul stuck in a metal armor and a demon possessed mouse. They work in an organization called B.O.S.S. (British Occult Secret Service) exclusively for the Queen, following any paranormal events affecting humans. These "agents" follow special cases no mortal human could follow because of their paranormal abilities. Nevertheless, they do take part in other ops from sting operations to find those con artist to even investigating the dimension between ours and the next.

Cognition is a supernatural noir Ken Reynolds created and is a great original comic that has a fresh dark tone. What separates this comic from the others is the art style thanks to Sam Bentley. The monochromatic art style this comic offers sells the story to the readers on a whole different level. Apart from the dark and seductive stories, the protagonists take the spot light. Cal is the human soul trapped in metal armor who likes to do what is right while his demon possessed mouse Sigma is rather callous and do what is needed. These characters balance each other out with their different ideologies and can combine forces to become something greater than themselves. If you're a fan of the dark supernatural thriller, Cognition is definitely what you want to get your hands on. Cognition Issue One is currently on Kickstarter and successfully backed with 10 days to go! Make sure to follow Cognition and the creative team at their Facebook and Twitter!

Trapped

WELCOME BACK TO AN ENSNARING  REVIEW AT COMIC UNKNOWN!
Created and Written by Kevin Truglio
Artwork and Lettering by Przemyslaw R. Dedelis

Who is Dr. Wagner?
We dive back into Kevin Truglio's mind and venture into Chem 19 Issue Six: Trapped to see what happened to Dr. Wagner after the games. While being told to follow one of the cartel members for his "prize", Jason Wagner is double-crossed held captive by the cartel. Dr. Wagner is now trapped and being tortured for information. Concerned that Dr. Wagner is not who he says he is, the Cartel believes that someone has sent him, but who? With pressure and time running out, Dr. Wagner must figure out what he must do to escape, retrieve Chem 19, and head back to Vivian before her time expires or being seen by the persistent cops. Fortunately or maybe unfortunately, Donkey is persistent and will do anything to get inside  the building. Will Donkey successfully find the newly acquainted Dr or a secret stash of the infamous drug?

With time ticking and every possible setback interfering Dr. Wagner's plans, we wonder how Dr. Wagner will unravel all these issues and walk out with Chem 19. The intensity of the issue reminds readers why Dr. Wagner went back into the city.  Chem 19 Issue Six: Trapped leaves us in a cliffhanger wanting to grab Issue Seven even quicker just to see what happened. Chem 19 is a strong series that allows the reader to walk in a dystopian world and see the struggles one goes through to survive. Chem 19 is now available on Comixology at $0.99 as well as IndyPlanet for $0.99 digitally and $2.99 physically. Stay addicted to Chem 19 and follow it on Facebook to keep up to date with any news related to the destructive drug, Dr. Wagner, and company.

Die a Con Man or Live as a Mark

Comic Unknown and The Biggest Score
SCAM ISSUE 1
SCRIPT: Joe Mulvey
ART: Joe Mulvey
INKS: John Ercek and Jules Rivera
COLORS: Andrew Crossley
LETTERS: AndWorld Design
COVER: Joe Mulvey and Andrew Crossley
EDITORS: Tyler James and Steven Forbes

Welcome to the world of Scam, the story that resembles the Ocean's franchise which we see a team of con artists in Las Vegas with a long history together. The first issue starts out with a team pulling a last-minute heist until one of their own double-crosses them and the whole team is basically burned. Fast forward two years later and the team reunites to settle the score with their old friend Marcus who is now a major player in Vegas with high security. There were some incidents that occur along the way which leads to one of the team members "Doc" to be captured. Doc had the ability to remember everything he had experienced and is more elaborate than eidetic memory. Scam adds the superhuman or supernatural abilities into play. In this issue, we see a few of these gifts such as  extraordinarily resilience, invisibility and lastly the ability to see through solid matter. The majority of the team met at the rendezvous point and wasted no time in initiating the revenge plan against Marcus. With Doc being held hostage, the plan gives the team all the more reason to move forward. After using their powers to corner their mark, they actually confront Marcus. Will the team find their missing friend Doc?

While it would be nice to have at least one of these powers in the real world, the roster of abilities are superb and the readers can expect more in the coming issues. First notable quality of the book is the artwork; SCAM's creative team did a splendid job fleshing out the pages. It's visually stunning and detailed to a point where you understand the situation at hand. The story is well done with enough minor plots to keep the reader guessing on who the players are and what they're scheming up. Overall it is an exceptional comic that keeps anyone entertained. Published through Comixtribe in 2012, SCAM Issue One is available in an Ultimate Collection Hard Cover Edition on Amazon and Comixtribe. If you want to check out Issue One exclusively plus four other Comixtribe comics, follow these easy steps here. Don't Mess with the Trashman

WELCOME TO ANOTHER FIST FULL REVIEW AT COMIC UNKNOWN!

Creator / Writer & Artist – Luke Stone
Colorist – Patrick Gama
Finishing - Luke Stone
Letterer / Designer – Luke Stone
Editor - Jason Bennett
Cover A - Luke Stone
Cover B - Will Calligan

So imagine if our lore, legends and  myths of angels, giants and gods were more than just fables. Imagine if these beings have a lineage that reaches out to our modern society. In Hybrids: The Sons of Gods, we finally get to peek into a world with that society. Created by Luke Stone, Hybrids: The Sons of Gods follows Clarence the larger than average "trashman" from WM and we use the word larger lightly considering his biceps are larger than his coworker's head. Confronted by a drone with a monitor, the drone shows a person's message,  a warning to him that someone is after him and to go somewhere safe. Unsure of what is going on, Clarence seems a bit hesitant with the message until what seems to be a huge jet just speeding down the road heading towards him.

So what would be the first reaction one would have when they see this? Well the answer is obviously turn around without looking, crash into a car unharmed while immobilizing the car and flee.  With plenty of action to follow, Hybrids: The Sons of Gods is definitely a fun read with an awesome cover and art. It has action, comedic relief, and a great title for a book. We want to see where the story goes and we ponder whether Clarence is related to god with lightning and/or energy abilities considering the name of the title. With such a humble personality it seemed a bit strange for him to go by the name of Trashman but if a person that makes Arnold Schwarzenegger look skinny says he is Trashman, you cannot disagree with him.

Hybrids: The Sons of Gods is available at Tenacious Comic's catalog as well as their other work for $3.99 each. You can also follow Tenacious Comic's Facebook page for exclusive updates on their titles as well as Luke Stone's site of his work.

Comic Unknown will like to introduce the first Haitian Superhero to the C.U. family of reviews. Spirit's Destiny: the comic of a headstrong high school student who becomes something greater. The book starts out with a fight between the parents and not the verbal kind, more like close quarters combat style of fighting. A very interesting way to introduce parents of our protagonist, we are introduced with father, a.k.a. Brian, (reminiscent of Deathstroke) inserting a syringe into his infant daughter. The parental spat was put to a halt when Brian heard the police sirens and took off. Destiny, now in high school, wakes up from what seemed to be a nightmare or was it a memory? Like mentioned earlier Destiny is a very headstrong high school student and she can be firm, especially to those who bully her. She clearly has those hereditary trait from somewhere, maybe it runs in the family. Some foresight is put into play when we find out that Destiny's mother Devine is working on a science experiment involving lasers.

Devine gets a call from Destiny's school about her fight and grounds her daughter but kids never listens and with a little help from her friends she sneaks out to her mother's lab no less. After playing with the console Destiny gets hit with the laser and so begins the journey. Cover suggest Destiny has an elemental superpower of the sorts, so we wonder whether the laser gave her the powers or awoke the dormant abilities. The cliffhanger leaves us in a spot where we wanted a bit more out the the first issue but still has us waiting for issue 2. Spirit's Destiny is the first Haitian superhero comic that has crossed our paths and with first issue feeling more like a prologue than an introduction, we expect to see the story develop soon. The art and story are both smooth and performs well together thanks to the great creative team.

The story isn't hard to follow, flows well between the scenes and the artwork is very comprehensive and enjoyable from the fighting scene at the start to the accident at the end. Successfully backed in Kickstarter back in May 2015, Spirit's Destiny is available in both physical and digital format on Amazon for $3.99 and also available in Indystash's subscription box

Staff of Truth

WELCOME TO ANOTHER SOUL SEARCHING REVIEW AT COMIC UNKNOWN!!!

So how far would you go to see if your dearly departed made it to the other side? Would you go to the distant and even cross the seams between life and death to search for them? After Val Miller's drug overdose, Professor Lawrence Miller take matters in his own hands to search for his now deceased son which he believes is stuck in limbo.  This grieving father will stop at nothing to find his son and punish those who caused Val's death. The Shepherd: Apokatastasis was written and created by the father/ son team Andrea Lorenzo Molinari and Roberto Xavier Molinari, pencils/ inks by Ryan Showers, Colorist by Heather Breckel & Mike Stefan and letterer/ logo design by Jacob Bascle. The Shepherd: Apokatastasis is a five issue series turned graphic novel that follows Lawrence Miller in deep sorrow and agony as he ventures into the seam and begins his quest to search for his son. He is confronted by his father warning him what would happen if he continues. After enough feuding, Lawrence's father gave in and gave Lawrence the Staff of Truth and doing so, Lawrence traverses the seams for his emotional yet vengeful mission.

The Shepherd: Apokatastasis is an intense supernatural story that was executed well. The word Apokatastasis originates from the Greek language meaning  reconstitution, restitution, or restoration to the original or primordial condition and  is also used in orthodox teaching that everyone in the end can and will be saved. We are put into perspective of how hard Prof. Miller was hit with the death of his son. The art and shading of the book compliments the story by giving the audience a life after life vibe and dark tone. With some snippets of information on how the story came together in Andrea's mind, we see how this book is eerily personal and how The Shepherd was born. The Shepherd: Apokatastasis is a great read with a dark tone that has us questioning what will happen in the book as we read. It has art that fits perfectly and starts the movie reel from beginning to end. You can follow Professor Lawrence Miller and The Shepherd: Apokatastasis at Caliber ComicsFacebook, and Tumblr. The Shepherd: Apokatastasis can be purchased at Amazon, Comixology, DriveThruComics, Google Play and from your local comic shop's Diamond Previews (Nov. 2015, page 286)

Lost Loved Ones Live Again

WELCOME TO THE DIGITAL AFTERLIFE WITH COMIC UNKNOWN

We traverse into the year 2021 where technology has developed the impossible. Elysium is the digital heaven for the dearly departed that allows users to be able to log in and visit them. Created by the Ilias Kyriazis, Elysium Online is a 90+ full-color graphic novel puts the reader a few days before the release day of Elysium. Everything sounds great in writing and the beta testing was going great but little does everyone know that the digital citizens have a hidden agenda. This social network involving the dearly departed turns to a darker tone once the release day hits and the whole world begins to experience the devastating aftermath the digital citizens brings to them. Elysium Online is an artistic masterpiece that shows not only beautiful and marvelous scenery but devastated and gruesome events as well. Funded via Indiegogo, Elysium successfully passed their goal with a 128% funding back in 2013 and even has the first few pages available to preview.

Elysium Online is a great read with stunning visuals that will throw the reader into the world and experience it as if it was a movie. The book has left us wanting more than just the ~90 pages it provides but the quality of the book is top-notch. Ilias Kyriazis' ability to convert the story's utopia to a world of devastation with ease is truly a privilege to witness on a comic book. The success of the story has been great to the point that the physical copy of the book is SOLD OUT. Luckily, Kyriazis also sells the book in digital format (pdf & cbr) for $7.00. Elysium Online is a recommendation to anyone and especially those that love a good sci-fi/horror comic. Kyriazis' portfolio includes work such as Secret Identities, Melody, and Falling for Lionheart. You can follow Kyriazis' work on Facebook or his own page and see what other projects he may have in store in the near future.
