Comic Unknown will like to introduce the first Haitian Superhero to the C.U. family of reviews. Spirit's Destiny: the comic of a headstrong high school student who becomes something greater. The book starts out with a fight between the parents and not the verbal kind, more like close quarters combat style of fighting. A very interesting way to introduce parents of our protagonist, we are introduced with father, a.k.a. Brian, (reminiscent of Deathstroke) inserting a syringe into his infant daughter. The parental spat was put to a halt when Brian heard the police sirens and took off. Destiny, now in high school, wakes up from what seemed to be a nightmare or was it a memory? Like mentioned earlier Destiny is a very headstrong high school student and she can be firm, especially to those who bully her. She clearly has those hereditary trait from somewhere, maybe it runs in the family. Some foresight is put into play when we find out that Destiny's mother Devine is working on a science experiment involving lasers. 

Devine gets a call from Destiny's school about her fight and grounds her daughter but kids never listens and with a little help from her friends she sneaks out to her mother's lab no less. After playing with the console Destiny gets hit with the laser and so begins the journey. Cover suggest Destiny has an elemental superpower of the sorts, so we wonder whether the laser gave her the powers or awoke the dormant abilities.The cliffhanger leaves us in a spot where we wanted a bit more out the the first issue but still has us waiting for issue 2. Spirit's Destiny is the first Haitian superhero comic that has crossed our paths and with first issue feeling more like a prologue than an introduction, we expect to see the story develop soon. The art and story are both smooth and performs well together thanks to the great creative team. 

 

 The story isn't hard to follow, flows well between the scenes and the artwork is very comprehensive and enjoyable from the fighting scene at the start to the accident at the end. Successfully backed in Kickstarter back in May 2015, Spirit's Destiny is available in both physical and digital format on Amazon for $3.99 and also available in Indystash's subscription box.

Union of Species

COMIC UNKNOWN HAS RECRUITED YOU TO THE 12TH HOUR

Welcome to the future where aliens from other planets are norms on Earth. To maintain the peace between species, the Union of Species was enacted. Unfortunately keeping the peace is never an easy task, the Union of Species needs intelligence to stop those who pose a threat to the Union and thus the 12th Hour was born. The 12th Hour has their operatives and agents which go on any types of mission, from gathering intel to eliminating a target. Agent: Wild #0 follows Teresa aka Agent Wild who was in deactivated suspension from a failed mission two years back. She's reassigned to do an extraction and elimination operation. Being able to manifest energy into almost anything should make a mission to kill all those who are against the Union and retrieve a package simple. She is saved by a ghost from her past when she is cornered by the enemy but she is skeptical and in shock.  Informed of a secret faction inside the Union and the 12th  will start a coup, the question becomes whether she believes the intel and which side will she pick. 

With Issue Zero at a close, the audience will have to find out what the ramifications are in the future issues. Overall Agent Wild issue zero is exceptional, the art is well-done thanks to Larry Welch, Jeff Graham, Nicolas Chapuis and Jesse Heagy. Agent: Wild has a lot of potential thanks do the creator Don Walker. With this union between alien species, the readers can be hopeful and expect more versatile and diverse agents. Although there isn't much information of the female agent on who she is as a person/alien and how her powers work, we expect the future issues will shed some more light on her origin as well as consequences of intel Agent Wild now knows. A reader will  easily enjoy this sci-fi action thriller with a hint of politics. In Bay City, there's an adrenal drug that makes you fearless and numb to pain street named "Juice". This makes people even more dangerous causing the police to be armed with .45 caliber rounds than the traditional 9 mm. To make matters worse, the police are being bought out by the gangsters. With the city and the police department corrupted, who will protect the innocent citizens that are stuck as collateral damage? Detective Knight has had enough of the crooked system in this city but in order to fight this plague he needs to use that very same drug. He can't fight the mob as a detective so he digs up something from his past to make sure his anonymity stays intact.


Does he have what it takes to stop this epidemic, overall saving his city? In the first issue, the story is dark and aggressive and leaves a nice amount of necessary questions for the audience to want more. The art matches the stories theme perfectly thanks to Tamal Saha and Paul Anderson. Points to Josh Lucas, the writer, for making a bold decision of the protagonist use the same drug as the gangsters to fight fire with fire. Nonetheless, the first issue opened strongly and it leaves the audience intrigued on how the story unfolds. Detective Ed Knight is a character you mostly see in comics but not in the real world: where you must do what is right no matter how hard it may seem. 

He doesn't have that tragic history that defines the character like most comics do, other than him having PTSD which is a fresh take. Even though it's the first issue, he can't take the mobsters alone, he'll eventually need help. But who can he trust in the twisted city? True Gritt

WELCOME TO ANOTHER HEROIC SMACKDOWN AT COMIC UNKNOWN!

We travel to Havenport City to see the story of this superhero comic: Gritt. Gritt and many others travel from the fallen planet of Aralios to the distant planet many of us know as Earth. Created and illustrated by Jordan Johnson and written by Max Milne, Gritt shines as the underdog hero as we follow him along with Glory catching no good chumps and assisting the police department of Havenport City. We see Gritt's perseverance and courage when he has to face off against Vigor the Great Warchief. Vigor is known for his triumphs over the famous Validus nation and even after every hit Vigor delivers, Gritt takes them as a champ demonstrating his perseverance once more. He does not give up, he plays his strengths, and maneuvers the battle to his benefit (somewhat). Gritt has the ability to fly and shows he can get a major butt woopin' and yet still manage to stand up and never surrender.

Gritt Issue 1 has not done much of development but it leaves a good impression to the reader. It gives us that underdog story with a side of superheroes. We see many characters in the issue which gives us the idea for a deeper story that we cannot wait for. While it ends in a cliffhanger and leaves more questions than answers, Gritt is a sucker punch to any villain out there. We expect to see more of Gritt and want to see how his story continues to develop. He is now part of Short Fuse Media Group's roster and he can be found in Heroes: Ignited Anthology with his own short story.
