Medal of Honor

WELCOME TO ANOTHER EXPLODING REVIEW AT COMIC UNKNOWN!

We enter the desert and follow Ken Baker, a Staff Sergeant aka Phantom in  Patriot-1. Baker is a spec ops soldier who finds himself in sticky situation involving the CIA. It started when his team including his team leader Janson and himself were on their last escort mission in Afghanistan since the war is almost over. The team was ambushed only Janson and Baker were left alive and captured. They were interrogated about an operation called Quisling which Baker had no intel to offer. Unfortunately, team leader Janson noted his involvement and everything went south from there. Janson's involvement essentially got him killed by the captors and now Baker is the sole survivor. Successfully escaping, Baker and the CIA have a common goal to avenge Janson's death as well as completing the same mission that Janson died because of his involvement. The road that lies ahead of Baker won't be easy, it contains deception and conspiracies this will affect his resolve as a soldier. Is he in over his head? Patriot-1 is a lengthy interesting read, you can easily lose track of time as you keep turning pages while reading it. Kevin Powers did an excellent job with the story and it blends very well with the art.

Comparable to Captain America's patriotism, Sergeant Baker is one of those rare soldiers who will do what is right regardless of how hard it may seem. His love for his country and willingness to sacrifice for it makes him into a powerhouse. The antagonist in this series is one readers will almost sympathize. His tenacity for his goal, although not the best of goals,  was a plus considering villains tend to have either sobbing back stories or they just want to the world to burn. Dexter Wee art approach engulfs the reader in this fantastic and gritty world. The readers can visually comprehend what is happening in the story as it doesn't require them to take a second glance at a page to understand. The book could not have been completed if it wasn't for Donna Gregory's and Keith Dallas' talents for the coloring and editing to bring the story home. This creative team made a marvelous story and should continue working together (either another issue or something totally fresh). Patriot won a bronze IPPY Award for Graphic Novels (Drama/ Documentary) and is clearly a keeper for those that enjoy the genre. Successfully funded on Kickstarter on August 1, 2014, Patriot-1 is available for purchase for $20.00 with free shipping including the digital copy and even a Patriot-1 bookmark! Readers can follow Patriot-1 on Facebook as well as  Kevin Powers with any upcoming projects on Facebook and Twitter!

Scavenged World

Comic Unknown's Treasured Story

Welcome to Arin, a planet with great industrialization that brought desolation to itself. Now it is considered a wasteland where only a small portion of the population were chosen to start a new life in a colony within the it's orbit. The king of the colony only wanted the best of the best to follow him to start this new life and a new race, those who were left behind are now considered Scavengers. Above all, the king wanted his legacy to continue and his children to be powerful. By doing so, he chooses the strongest witches within The Floating City to bear his children. Majority complied to his wishes, but one refused to give her child to the king. She smuggled her baby boy, Aidan, to the wastelands to live his life peacefully with a fellow witch from the willows. In exchange for his care, she was given Caleb to replace Aidan and live in the royal city. Twenty-five years go by and both are all grown up and without knowing their heritage.

Their paths are bound to cross when the king finds out his authority is threatened and sends his "son" and an army to Tin City to eradicate the danger. What will be in store for the boys of Scavenger? Issue #1 of Scavenger is the origin story of Aidan's new journey as the hidden royalty with a hint of magic, born in the Emerald Palace inside the space colony, but lives in the wastelands. Written by Kim Roberts, Issue one is the prologue needed to jump start the series. The story builds at a steady pace and shows us a world with a dark history but potentially a revolutionizing future. While we now know where these characters came from, the mystery starts on what path these characters take. As for the art, don't take it lightly; Megan Huang did a splendid job designing the comic's world and sceneries. The story is violent and dark, however, there are scenes that ease that tension and harmonize the story as a whole. Scavenger #1 is an excellent sci-fi tale with a strong opening that'll keep the audience excited and leaves them pondering on the upcoming issues. Scavenger Issue One is a 24-page issue that will be a six part series. Scavenger Issue One is a brand new comic that is available digitally on ComiXology for $1.99. If you like to know more about the planet Arin and its inhabitants, you can follow its writer Kim Roberts on Twitter or check out Markosia's website.

Sweet Nothingness

WELCOME TO AN ALTERNATE REALITY AT COMIC UNKNOWN!

It's never about the destination but about the journey that brought you to it. In Alter-Life, we see Jake at what he assumed was the end of his road.  Widowed and without with daughter due to a car accident, Jake merely travels through what is left of his existence until he stumbles onto something beyond his control.  When he dies, he is just put back into the world as if nothing happened with minor difference around him. Things will never be the same for him but almost nothing has changed. Created by Caleb Thusat and art by Katrina Kuntsmann, Alter-Life Issue One is a beautiful science fiction that makes us ponder on whether there are alternate realities 99.99% similar to our current reality. It is definitely a fresh story that hasn't been seen in the comic world recently.

The art fits the story perfectly with its unique style for a comic book. It sets the mood of what is going through our protagonist's mind as he ventures through each life he lives through. If Jake continues his voyage between realities, can he find the reality he is looking for or is he stuck forever in what could be his own hell? Could he become something more than a mourning widower, maybe someone elses savior? Only time will tell with future issues on what can Jake is destined for. Successfully funded through Kickstarter back in March 2016, you can now purchase a copy of Alter-Life Issue One at Village Comics' site for $1.99 digitally and $4.99 for a physical copy. If you want to know more on Jake and his journey, make sure to follow Alter-Life's Facebook page and Twitter.

Head Versus Head

WELCOME TO ANOTHER BODILY FUNCTION AT COMIC UNKNOWN!
Not Suitable for Children

We literally enter the mind of Morgan, an awkward but still average university student learning what he wants in life. Within Morgan are his organauts that monitor every single thing he does as they influence his thoughts, actions, and urges. Bran the brain controller being the leader of the crew faces the everyday decisions for Morgan but we soon learn that Pepe the penis controller only has one thing in mind. Pepe's constant rebellion begins to put a strain on what Bran has in mind for Morgan. The crew must embrace each other and work as a team to be able to accomplish everyone's desire, but can they even get past a wet dream that avoided the firewall? Morgan's Organs was written/created Daniel Brodie and illustrated by Robert Jennex. While not aimed for younger readers, Morgan's Organs features inappropriate dreams and raunchy moments that makes this adult version of Inside Out priceless.

If you ever wondered how Inside Out would have worked through the eyes of a male college student, look no more. Morgan's Organs is a gut-busting comedy that while the idea has been seen before, it is the fresh take we need and want. Following the organauts through their struggle to make sure Morgan makes the right decisions but at the same time satisfy his needs. Having a handful of these characters revealed, we can only ponder  whether there are other characters inside Morgan that we haven't yet seen. Successfully funded back in March 2016 on Kickstarter, Morgan's Organs is 40 pages of comedic content with hilarious but great illustrations that follows Morgan and the journey inside his insides. Issue One is now available for purchase both digital and physical copy at its self-titled site. To follow Morgan and his organauts, check out their Facebook page, Twitter, and even Instagram

Vrecked

WELCOME BACK TO ANOTHER VRECKLESS MATCH ON COMIC UNKNOWN!

Created by Lucasz Kowalczuk
We return to the professional interdimensional wrestling league with issue two of Vreckless Vrestlers.   In the previous issue we saw the two victors Vegan Cat and the Eye waiting for their opponents at the semi finals. Issue two puts us in the second half of the quarter finals with two crazy match ups. In the first match we find the Original Hippie Killer VS Barbarica.  While OHK appears to be the weakest of all contestants, he is still a strong contender with a few tricks up his sleeve. On the other hand we see Barbarica from Valhalla, an excellent warrior that not only does not care of her looks but has an everlasting vigor that is incomparable. In the remaining quarter final match we are introduced to Spike Lee and Sergeant Reptilion.

Originally from the 80s, Spike Lee is a leader of a chinese gang from the US west coast. This martial arts master must fight one of the most deadful creatures from the 25th century. Sergeant Reptilion is one of the leaders of the squadrons serving under the Iron Fist orders. The merciless anti-hero must use his tactics to devour his opponent. All in all, i can never except anything less from Lucasz Kowalczuk. Vreckless Vrestlers is always that mindless violence everyone or maybe even everything is looking for. Its unique art grabs attention easily and puts us back into the year 3067 in the tournament where there are no rules. Vreckless Vrestlers Issue Two is available on Comixology for a mere $0.99! You can Follow Vreckless Vrestlers on their site and Facebook page.

The Game is Espionage

WELCOME TO ANOTHER INFILTRATING REVIEW WITH COMIC UNKNOWN!

Written by Nicolas Dedual
Art by Dennis Calero
Lettered by David Lanphear
Edited by M.I. Annoni
We follow Nicolas Dedual, Dennis Calero and the rest of the Torchbearing creative team once again with issue #2 of Torchbearer. A month has passed since the  bombing and the manhunt in Hyperia from issue #1 and the organization of rebels has taken over Chathulla  while Prometheus is still in the dark on who invaded it and why. The government decided to eliminate Chathulla as a whole with something very old but powerful. Given the advance technology protecting Chathulla, the government found that the old ways are sometimes the best. After the demolishment, the rebels need to find a way to remove Prometheus' big gun from play. In the end, they came up with espionage: get in unseen, steal the data and escape. Will the rebels come out unscathed? In issue #2 we find out who the players are, what organization they follow and what they're capable of with their technology. We still don't know what the whole picture is or what this war is about, so we ponder why the rebels declare war with the government Prometheus.

Is it a typical revenge plot where the government didn't protect its citizens? A fun theory is the original Star Wars plot: the government is corrupt and it's up to rebels to destroy them. While we still haven't reach the pinnacle of the Torchbearer, the story is very compelling. The story told in issue #2 by itself is a fantastic attention grabber, but it's merely a piece of a giant puzzle. What will unfold once Prometheus finds out who the rebellion is? Only time will tell until we find out the secrets of Torchbearer. If you would like to jump start into this series, you can get Issue One for Free and purchase Issue Two for less than a dollar! Make sure to  keep yourself up to date with Torchbearer and Odd Truth Comics by checking out the Odd Truth Comics site and following their Facebook page for any updates on their comics.

Out of the Litterbox

WELCOME TO AN INTERESTING CATVENTURE AT COMIC UNKNOWN!

We introduce today a new buddy adventure that is not your average adventure. Pulled through a bizarre vortex into what is called the "Movie Studio", two not so ordinary cats become probationary agents that were somewhat recruited to help keep the universe intact. We welcome "The Adventures of Mac and Trouble" to the Comic Unknown family of reviews. Created by Rusty Gilligan (Marvel, DC, Walking Dead, etc...), Mac and Trouble Issue One consists of three stories each with their own creative team. The book starts with the Origin story that introduces us to these two silly cats. With Dan Gorman on pencils, Terry Pavlet on inks and E.T. Dollman on letters, the origin story is what starts it all. Mac and Trouble are pulled into a plane only known as the Movie Studio which is essentially the headquarters where agents receive their assignments to traverse to other worlds or even universes to solve problems, correct mistakes, and mop up the occasional "boo-boo".

The second story is named "Never say no to Trouble" is undoubtedly a play on words where we follow Mac doing anything he can to stop Trouble from getting into.... well trouble. Trouble puts the universe in jeopardy for some orange juice and will stop at nothing for some added calcium.  "Never say no to Trouble", like the origin story has the same creative team except for the letterer known as Magnus. In our final encounter with these two felines, we enter the story that can be only known as " Nazi Hobgoblins at the Core of the Cosmos". Mac and Trouble are now looking for some quality Coney Island hotdogs and where else or when else can they go except for 1939. With Mac worried about using their multiversal traveling privileges for trivial reasons, Trouble once again runs off and gets himself into a predicament. The story does end in a cliffhanger and leaves us waiting for the next issue.

The Adventures of Mac and Trouble Issue One at certain points reminded me of the newspaper comic strips and just let my innerchild run wild. Following these two crazy cats through time and space was a gratifying feeling where left me wanting more from the issue other than these three stories. The Adventures of Mac and Trouble is a Tom and Jerry styled adventure with some real world references except Jerry is replaced with a more sillier Tom (so Tom and Tom?). It is a must read and will definitely be enjoyed by anyone in almost any age (very mild language). You can follow these two rascals and their shenanigans on their Facebook page as well as their creator Rusty Gilligan's facebook page. Issue One can be bought digitally for $2.00 at WP Comics and will become available later tonight for physical copies.
