Sliced & Diced

WELCOME TO ANOTHER EXPERIMENTAL ANTHOLOGY AT COMIC UNKNOWN
Here at Comic Unknown we have reviewed many different narratives, from a scientist searching for a drug to save his daughter to a post apocalyptic zombie world that still manages to run a proper civilization. We now have an unique opportunity to talk a bit about Sliced Quarterly #1, an experimental anthology that shows the audience ordinary stories in extraordinary ways. SQ #1 consists on nine different stories varying in style and one may even recognize a few creators. We will be reviewing a few of the stories that popped out for us from Sliced Quarterly #1.

Sliced Quarterly #1 starts off with Meta Affliction by the creator of SQ himself, Ken Reynolds. Meta Affliction is beyond clever showing us a character playing video games (alone) and the narrator is pointing out how it is essentially depressing. The character notices the narrator's words on the panels and we can safely say that the character tries to fight back and make the narrator leave her alone. The silliness behind this short story beyond amusing for us seeing how the character breaks the fourth wall and retaliates against the narrator.

All of the stories have something to make themselves unique as well as having something great to point out. Halfway through the book we find a story most had heard but have never seen. All Along the Watchtower is scripted by Chris Redfern, art by Dave Snell and letters by Ken Reynolds. If you cannot guess by now, the story is based on a song by one of the most influential electric guitarists: Jimi Hendrix. The story felt more like an awesome singalong with stunning colors that did not disappoint.

Sliced Quarterly is clearly the successful experiment that the world must see. We also have Geophagy by Stewart Moore, Ontologue by Rob Cannon, Spotlight on Installation by Ben Peter Johnson,  The Elevations & Depressions of a Local Radio Presenter by Bee Bop, Szlam/Slime by Lukasz Kowalczuk (HEY! He created Vreckless Vrestlers), Pulse by Scott Melrose and Tony Suleri, and The Body Bag by Chris Sides and Denis Vermesse. Tell us what you think about these stories by viewing or downloading the comic at their main page.

Crave the Flesh

WELCOME TO ANOTHER APOCALYPSE AT COMIC UNKNOWN!!
Worst Day Ever Issue 1

We all have are good days and bad days; whether it's from work or our own personal lives. We usually call it the worst day of our lives, and that's in our modern society. Now think of a place in time where your job is dressing up as a hotdog everyday and advertising your shop, meanwhile killing zombies between breaks. We have it easy now if we lived in a world like that. In Worst Day Ever, society is at peace sort of speaking, where killing a zombie is almost mediocre. The story follows Charlie, I guess you can call him an average Joe; except for the fact he has a shotgun with him all the time. His day began like every other day, fighting zombies in the hall, riding his moped, killing a zombie, going to a cafe for his morning Joe and crushing on the barista than killing a zombie. We see Charlie and his partner in crime Bill (literally), raiding compounds and abandoned facilities in their free time to scavenge whatever they can. That evening the two found their way to the top of a facility hoping to find some high-end product to swipe but instead welcomed by another group of looters. The odds were in other groups favor, five people versus two. Hope seem grim for Charlie and Billy and the tension between to two were put to a halt when zombies crashed the party. Will they put their differences aside to stay alive? Or will it be a bloody free for all?

Recently funded in Kickstarter on May 2016, WDE is the Clerks meets Zombieland comic that is much needed. WDE has the unlimited potential to entertain their readers as well as illustrate a world where having zombies is part of one's daily routine. We expect to see this world grow with an expansive developed story. We wonder what can actually occur in a society that manages to be stable after a zombie apocalypse. While it is still not available to the public, Worst Day Ever Issue one is available for pre-order for $3.99 with the release date of August 24, 2016. Worst Day Ever will be a 12 issue mini-series with the entire arc already scripted by Westley Schomer and the pencils and inks under development by Luke Stone and the colors by Patrik Mock . You can follow Tenacious Comic's Facebook and always keep an eye out for them on Kickstarter for any new projects they are developing.

True Gritt

WELCOME TO ANOTHER HEROIC SMACKDOWN AT COMIC UNKNOWN!

Gritt Issue 1
Jordan Johnson (illustrator/creator) and Max Milne (writer)

We travel to Havenport City to see the story of this superhero comic: Gritt. Gritt and many others travel from the fallen planet of Aralios to the distant planet many of us know as Earth. Created and illustrated by Jordan Johnson and written by Max Milne, Gritt shines as the underdog hero as we follow him along with Glory catching no good chumps and assisting the police department of Havenport City. We see Gritt's perseverance and courage when he has to face off against Vigor the Great Warchief. Vigor is known for his triumphs over the famous Validus nation and even after every hit Vigor delivers, Gritt takes them as a champ demonstrating his perseverance once more. He does not give up, he plays his strengths, and maneuvers the battle to his benefit (somewhat). Gritt has the ability to fly and shows he can get a major butt woopin' and yet still manage to stand up and never surrender.

Gritt Issue 1 has not done much of development but it leaves a good impression to the reader. It gives us that underdog story with a side of superheroes. We see many characters in the issue which gives us the idea for a deeper story that we cannot wait for. While it ends in a cliffhanger and leaves more questions than answers, Gritt is a sucker punch to any villain out there. We expect to see more of Gritt and want to see how his story continues to develop. He is now part of Short Fuse Media Group's roster and he can be found in Heroes: Ignited Anthology with his own short story. Gritt Issue One can be purchased digitally or physically from IndyStash's monthly packages here for 5.00 and 12.00 respectively which includes FOUR different indie books.

The Clowns Are In Town

Welcome To A New Gut Wrenching Show at Comic Unknown

The main attraction today are killer clowns! And they're coming for you.....if you're a sinner that is. To be specific, these clowns target those who hurt children from child abuse all the way to pedophiles. Special thanks to the creators of this outstanding comic: Kevin LaPorte for writing this very terrorizing clown story (and for scarring me even further) and Amanda Rachels for bringing it to life. Needless to say, these aren't people with paint on their face, but are supernatural or vengeful spirits. And once they find their target, the clowns get downright savage. From pulling your intestines out to a man-eating top hat. The terror doesn't end there, they take the abused children and transform them into clowns. These clowns plague the town to those who harm children in any manner.

Before the mayhem, the story follows a little girl who witnesses her friend being taken by a clown. Chelsea is now on a mission to rescue Melvin before it's too late. In a small town in Kentucky, she gathered as many people as she can trust. After sneaking their way in the circus, she finds her friend unfortunately already a clown. However, a piece of him is still there after the transformation. The reunion was cut short when the gruesome clowns assemble for a ceremony.

The graphic novel can give nightmares to anyone with coulrophobia. The creative team did a great job on this story and a small part of me is relieved that it is just a book. To purchase a copy of the graphic novel and see the transformation ritual and the origin of these vicious clowns, you can visit their page here to the comic with the digital copy going for $4.99 and physical graphic novel for $12.99 or on Comixology here. Overall the comic is well written with gut-wrenching artwork to convey the story. Unfortunately, there's only one graphic novel of this twisted circus even though we are left wanting more.

10th Dimensional Citizens

WELCOME TO ANOTHER MIND-BENDING STORY TO COMIC UNKNOWN
GalaXaFreaks Issue 1

Today we'd like to welcome a visually stunning, trippy yet fun comic known as GalaxaFreaks!! Created by Andrew Pawley, Galaxafreaks follows the adventure of a group of friends living in the mind of a freak that lives in a Higgs Boson particle. Inside the mind of the freak that lives in the Higgs Boson particle holds a whole cosmic universe. It is there where we meet the craziest and trippiest characters you can imagine: Captain Yeah!, Raymondo, Optik, and Ringzola.

We follow these four friends, each with there own abilities and quirks. The first issues comes with three short stories each more wackier than the last. It starts out with our wacky friends getting ready to play Freakball until it goes array eventually they make due with what they have.Afterwards, we have a boy who turns reality side ways with a pair of Galaxaphones. Lastly one of the characters manages to lose his vibe from an infected tape carrying subatomic critters known as the Vibekillers.

This comic is beyond creative and vibrant as well as unorthodox. The incomparable art of each page puts the book itself in a trippy cosmic universe of colors. Following the freaks is beyond fun to watch and read. There is no limitations to what can or cannot happen in the freak's daily routine. Galaxafreaks is the right dosage of trippiness a reader needs. Galaxafreaks Issue 1 as well as their other issues is available at the self titled website here

Lockdown

WELCOME  TO A BACK TO BACK CHEMICALLY ADDICTED VENTURE WITH COMIC UNKNOWN!!
CHEM 19 ISSUE FOUR: THE GAME

After a great interview with Kevin yesterday, we had to continue where we left off with Chem 19 with a new review. We start issue four with Dr. Jason Wagner entering the city for Chem 19 for his daughter. Luck happened to miss him from a mile away considering the city is on a lockdown and no street level thug or dealer is selling. He confronts his usual dealer completely unaware of the lockdown and the dealer catches on quickly that Dr, Wagner is not from around there. Being immediately threatened and having his cover blown, Dr. Wagner walks away from the gangsters and begins to be followed. It did not take him long to pin the guy against the wall and get information from him.

We as the reader get to learn a lot in this issue. We learn about The Games which is a fighting tournament held by the cartel and the winner receives some Chem 19. We also get a glimpse on what caused the government to be how they are now. We are glad to see the story developing and answering a few questions on what has happened in the Chem 19 universe. The creative team of Chem 19 will have the reader flipping through the pages binging through the books to see what is will happen. With more to come from Truglio and Dedelis, only time will tell on what happens to Vivian and Dr. Wagner in this dystopian world. Chem 19 Issue 4: The Games is available at IndyPlanet for both physical and digital (2.99 & 0.99 respectively) and digitally at Comixology for 0.99.

An Addict's Interview

Welcome back to another great adventure with Comic Unknown!!

Today we have a very special opportunity to interview a creator we have seen in the Comic Unknown world multiple times. He created the father that will stop at nothing to find a drug that could not only kill his daughter, but needs the drug to keep her alive. We welcome Kevin Truglio the creator of Chem 19 to this fortunate interview!

Comic Unknown: What made you want to work in the comicbook industry?

Kevin Truglio: I always enjoyed comics as a kid and they were a fun part of growing up.  When the story of Chem 19 came to me, it can as these images that I felt would be perfect as a comic instead of other mediums, so because of that, it just felt natural to try and tell the story that way.

CU: How did you come up with the story line of Chem 19?

KT: The story of Chem 19 came as a way of dealing with an incident of life.  I had these emotions that I was going thru and the story of Chem 19 evolved from them.

CU:Were any of the characters inspired by another character or person?

KT: No one in particular.  As a writer, we always use our past as an indirect influence on our works so there is some of that but nothing where I chose specifically for the story.   I do use my friends and family names for characters and even have contests on the Facebook or the Tapastic page where fans came have their name in the series.

CU: How many issues do you have in mind for the series?

KT: We are on issue # 18 and that ends the first arc.  I’m not sure how long the 2nd arc will take but I do see the series continuing on after the first arc.  The story keeps growing as we work on it.

CU: Will the comic's universe continue after the series?

KT: Maybe.  I’ve had some spinoff stories pop up in my head of how other people would live in this world.  Some of these could be one time stories as bonus material for a KickStarter or even make their way into the series later.  It’s all up in the air right now.

CU: What was the most difficult part in the production of Chem 19?

KT: The toughest part is growing the fan base.  Marketing takes time.  I’ve done a successful Kickstarter, gone to conventions and built an online presence.  It’s constant work.  There are so many stories and products out there, it’s hard for a little guy to find his way.

CU: Are you planning on any new series after Chem 19?

KT: I’m working on a horror novel and do have another idea for a comic series but want to continue with Chem 19 for now so nothing on the comic front.

CU: Who is your favorite all time super hero/villain? Why?

KT: Dare Devil.  I love what he stands for.  It really drew me in as a kid…Plus who doesn’t want be afraid of anything!

CU: What is the best way readers can find Chem 19?

KT: The two best ways are our Facebook page or Tapastic page.  And always make sure to check Kickstarter for us too, we will be launching our 2nd one soon to put issues 7-12 in a TPB.  That is the main way that we get our sales which help us continue the story.

THANK YOU SO MUCH KEVIN FOR THIS AWESOME INTERVIEW!!
Here is a small peek to the first few pages of the first issue to give you a taste of Chem 19

Vready to Vrumble

VELCOME TO ANOTHER VONDERFUL MATCH ON COMIC VUNKNOWN

We enter this new adventure with Lucasz Kowalczuk, the mind behind the comic series of an inter-dimensional tournament only known as Vreckless Vrestlers. It is a five part issue miniseries that also has an introductory Issue 0 on the fighters. We see two fights with issue one: Crimean Crab VS The Eye and Vegan Cat VS Flatwoods Monster. We see these fighters in the year 3067  entering the ring with the single rule the tournament: No Rules. Vreckless Vrestlers is essentially the mindless comic people will look for. It has a fighter card in the beginning of each match in both English and Polish and is set up in black and white with green highlighted shading (only in digital).V.V. does not need too much detail to get its story across but we can say that both of the fights in the issue are cold-blooded and barbaric.

We see a  small glimpse of history that Crimean Crab and The Eye actually knew each other prior to the fight without any actual dialogue. It has some great grungy art that pops with all the violence in the issue. V.V. is that unique comic that refreshes the mind with just a simple chaotic matches with no limitations. We quickly see each fighter's strengths with a victor and loser in each match. It is an entertainingly brutal  and vreckless  book that is its own unique comical experience.  Vreckless Vrestlers Issue 1 is currently available digitally for  $0.99 here and is a book that is its own unique comical experience with a side of brutal wrestling. The only upset is that the self-published edition  is no longer available and the trade paperback was only published in the Polish version by Kultura Gniewu and not available in any shop in North America.

If you enjoy the artwork of Lucasz Kowalczuk, check out his Tumblr page and have some fun.

Vitally Challenged

#Welcome to another ghost fighting chronicle of Comic Unknown!
#IFightGhosts Give Me Your Money Collection Volume 1

Obligatory Origin Story

We find ourselves which another hit web comic that was successfully funded into an Omnibus via Kickstarter. #IFightGhosts was created by Martin Dunn, Dustin Holfier, and Moises Fermin. Give me your Money Collection Volume 1 is over 70 pages of content and consists of #IFightGhosts Season 1, Season 2, A Spectromancer Christmas Carol, Dandy & Company/#IFightGhosts, Political Correction 1-3, and an Art Gallery. Excluding the Crossover with Dandy & Company, #IFightGhosts is in full color. The art would catch the audience's attention to check out the book and the writing will make sure the audience read the book cover to cover in one shot. #IFightGhosts follows the afterlife of Darren Palmer who selflessly dies and becomes Spectromancer even though he is pretty much a jerk. This anti-hero finds himself in situations and adventures no one would ever find themselves in.

The Spectromancer is absolutely everywhere in a good way. A priest attempts to exorcise him, he confronts Cthulhu, and he even refers pop culture and current events. #IFightGhosts is the series almost anyone can pick up and enjoy it. Spectromancer has a Scarecrow look/Deadpool vibe going and it works. Fortunately for the audience, #IFightGhosts is a  horror/comedy webcomic and is available to read for free here! If you want to pick up the physical omnibus and/or support the creators just follow the steps on their Kickstarter. All in all, #IFightGhosts is an awesome web comic turned book that is fun, entertaining, and gained a new follower.

Saw #IFightGhosts booth at MegaCon Orlando and had to instantly pick up the book :)
